Dryness, conversion, perseverance, hope — not a broken part of the self, but how genesis sustains itself, and how it falls out of step.
The same eye for how things come to be, turned toward faith and life. The question here is not "do you believe firmly enough," but: when was the last time you stepped back into the scene that once pierced you through?
Why does a believer who reads scripture daily and never doubts wake one morning to find prayer sliding off an invisible dome? Dryness is not weak faith or hidden sin, but a desynchronization of the S/D/E triad. The essay proposes "recurrence-dependence," cuts cleanly against Durkheim, Collins, Weber and John of the Cross, and offers a double-dissociation prediction judged at the exit, not the entrance.

A falsifiable rebuild of "Addicted to the Sacred." Spiritual dryness is controlled neither by ritual fidelity (contra Eliade) nor by ritual frequency (contra Whitehouse) but by whether each re-entry reopens a self-implicating potential-difference — both fidelity and frequency being mere proxies that can dissociate from it. Recurrence-dependence is demoted to a background assumption and credited to Eliade/Durkheim/Elster; the variable is contested head-on with a 2×2 design and every "God may work otherwise" escape hatch is revoked.
